Hailing from the streets of New Orleans, now living in Phoenix, AZ after Hurricane Katrina, Joseph Martin aka
“J-Slugg” is poised to set the music industry on fire. Using past experiences, this 25 year-old artist tells tales from all aspects of life, whether it be street stories or that of misleading choices in life. J-Slugg in not only a recording artist, but also a producer and engineer, mixing and mastering his own sessions.

“Coming up as a child, all my mother played was Bob Marley. At my grandmother’s house it was Sam Cook, Curtis Mayfield and the classic Temptations. That’s where my love for music started. By living on the East Coast and down South, there are a lot of people who have had an influenced on me. For instance, Tupac Shakur, DMX, RedMan, Meth, Jay-Z, NAS, and then you have the DIRTY SOUTH, which has had the biggest impact on me. Artist such as Lil Jon, T.I, Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Master P, Mystikal, and B.G. I look at them and I see what they have done. I know I can do the same.”

In 2007, J-Slugg signed a record deal with Big Rig Records with a group known as the Gwap Boyz 504. They took to the road, traveling and making a name for themselves in other cities nationwide such as: Houston, TX, New Orleans, LA, and Los Angeles, CA. The group was very close; Young Skippa, Stix, and Slugg called each other brothers. As time continued, their manager and exclusive producer Reggie “Pop” Anders took The Gwap Boys on the never-ending roller coaster ride of there lifes. J-Slugg was the only one who he admired, but he was also jealous of Slugg because he out shined the rest of the group. Slugga was also the only one who stood up to Pops. Close to receiving a major label record deal in 2009, J-Slugg’s contract was breached over money exchanging and the jealousy felt towards him. The Gwap Boyz 504 were no more, but Slugg always says, “I still love my brothas Skipa and Stixs… I wish we could do it all over again, and do it right.”

Later that year, J-Slugg moved back to Arizona, linking up with his old crew Move-Mo (Michael Jenkins), and D. Loco (Dion Williams), to start Trap Hard Records. In 2010, J-Slugg was introduced to Jar-Rod Punch, an associate of D. Loco, and he became a part of Trap Hard as well. Jar-Rod had a lot of connects in Phoenix, introducing Slugg to Tyler Johnson & Thaddeus Whyte (aka FriskOlay), managers and business partners of The Illustrious Few. Due to his different sound and original style compared to Arizona music, The Ill Few became immediately interested. And in 2010, it was announced that J Slugg signed to iF under Trap Hard/Illustrious Few.
